Crossworks awarded $5,000 community grant from Heritage Hospital - October 2011

For the past six years, the Heritage Hospital Development Council has provided funding to local community agencies at its annual Community Benefits Grants Reception. This year, eight agencies were given a total of $89,230, $5000 of which was awarded to Crossworks for our work in diabetes self-management through nutrition.

Crossworks awarded grant from Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust - July 2010

Winston-Salem, NC — The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust announces $150,000 in new grant awards to 11 small organizations for capacity building efforts throughout North Carolina. The Trust kicked off the program with a gathering of the new grantees on July 13th in Cary, NC. These organizations, representing nine counties, received one-year grants to increase their ability to accomplish their missions as community-based partners serving financially needy residents in their communities. Capacity building efforts among these organizations will help develop and strengthen the skills, infrastructure, abilities, processes, and resources that they need to thrive. Their commitment to improving the health of their community's residents will be supported through board development, strategic planning, organizational assessment and coaching, and resource development. The Trust's decision to focus these grant dollars primarily on applicants from minority-led, community-based organizations, and specifically from organizations located in rural,low-wealth counties, is part of our vision to respond to the needs of the state's most vulnerable residents.

“The Trust firmly believes in investing in capacity building because our mission depends on local organizations' work in the community—we are only as successful as our grantees. Enhancing their ability to be wildly successful is a win-win for the advancement of our mission and theirs,” said Karen McNeil-Miller, President.

Grantees include American Indian Mothers, Inc. (Robeson), Cornerstone Ministry, Inc. (Pitt), Crossworks, Inc. (Nash), Health Support Center, Inc. (Pitt), Lake Area Counseling, Inc. (Warren), An Open Door Community Development Corporation, Inc. (Wayne), Pastoral Care and Counseling Center of Wilkes, Inc. (Wilkes), The Place of Possibilities (Bertie), Shepherds Care Medical Clinic (Wake), Success Dynamics Community Development Corporation (Pitt), Wilson County Substance Abuse Coalition, Inc. (Wilson).

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust was established in 1947 and is now one of the largest private trusts in North Carolina. Its mission is to improve the quality of life and quality of health for the financially needy of North Carolina. The Health Care Division promotes wellness state-wide by investing in prevention and treatment. The Poor and Needy Division of the Trust responds to basic life needs and invests in solutions that improve the quality of life and health for financially needy residents of Forsyth County. Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company, serves as sole trustee.

Debra Long Honored at Ultimate Drive® for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Event - March 2007

Debra G. Long was honored by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Carolina Triangle affiliate¹. She was recognized in March 2007 as the local HERO during the BMW Ultimate Drive held in Raleigh, NC for outstanding contribution in the area of increasing breast cancer awareness.
